During a season full of twinkling lights and holiday cheer, maintaining concentration can feel like the greatest challenge of all. Before you postpone your studies until the new year, check out these tips to balancing work and play during winter break.

1. Make a list of all upcoming, post-vacation deadlines

This may include ACT or SAT registration dates or college application deadlines. By mapping out your deadlines, you can prepare your schedule accordingly!

2. Tackle one assignment every day

Set aside an hour every day of winter break to concentrate on your college applications or projects. Tell a friend or family member about your plan so they can hold you accountable.

3. Get some rest

Not only do we mean a full night’s sleep, but rest your mind. Try meditating, baking cookies, petting your cat, or reading a book for leisure. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, it’s crucial to know when you need to recharge.

4. Avoid detail-oriented work in the midst of chaotic holiday preparations.

You may find it difficult accomplishing some studying while your family is buzzing with holiday energy. Instead, set aside your quiet time in the morning or in the evening. That way, you won’t miss out on any of the festivities!

5. Craft a list of New Year’s resolutions

This is a great time to reflect, reminisce your favorite memories, look toward the future, and set goals for the year to come.

6. Conduct mock college admissions interviews

Winter break is a prime opportunity to practice! And the more you practice, the more comfortable you will be when it comes time for the real thing. Ask a relative to help you out!

7. Don’t leave all of your work until the last minute

If you spread the work over a period of time, it won’t feel like such a hefty weight on your shoulders. By procrastinating, you will set yourself up for some pretty stressful all-nighters.

8. Spend the majority of your break letting loose and having fun

It is a celebratory season, after all!

Be sure to kick back and enjoy the company of loved ones this holiday season. Savor the moments you spend swapping recipes with your aunt, ice skating with your best friend, or singing carols with your grandfather. By striking a balance between work and play, you will make the most of your time off. Have a wonderful winter break!
