Not only is your college library the perfect study spot, but it’s also home to an abundance of resources you should know about. Here are some things in your college library you won’t want to miss!

1. Research Database

Many colleges have access to assortments of information that cover all different types of research including full-text scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias, and books! Being a student, you will have your school log-in to utilize this useful resource.

2. Course Textbooks

Before you go to the bookstore to purchase your textbooks, check with the library to see if they have any physical or electronic copies of the books you need for class. Your wallet will thank you!

3. Leisure Reading

It’s easy to forget that your college library not only holds academic books, but leisure reading, too! If you enjoy reading for fun, this is great news! Check your library before spending on brand new books. We bet they’ve got exactly what you are looking for.

4. Latest Technology

Most college libraries have a multimedia center with all kinds of tech tools to check out. Think digital cameras, tablets, laptops, video cameras, and more. You may also have access to video and film collections and even a multimedia writing center!

5. Printing

You can skip on buying your own printer and opt for the ones at your college library! If it isn’t free printing, the cost is typically a few pennies a page. Though having your own printer can be convenient, you will have to keep up with maintaining your stock of paper and ink… as well as fixing your printer if it breaks down. The library also provides inexpensive scanning, copying, and even faxing services.

6. Journals

Most universities have memberships that allow you access to collections of articles written by academics. These journals may cover very specific topics for scholarly research, and serve as a great supply of credible information for research papers, projects, and more!

7. Historical Artifacts

From art to film to historical artifacts, be sure to check out the private historical sections of your library. Some universities may even have museums of their own! Exploring these ancient items can serve as a useful tool in your education, broadening your horizons and expanding your mind.

8. Librarians

Don’t hesitate to reach out to your librarians; they are there to help you! They will acquaint you with the college library and assist in finding the books you’re looking for. Some schools will even provide workshops at the library that will teach you how to operate the databases, cite academic sources, and so much more! You may even be required to take these seminars as a part of your first year experience class.
