Did you have a class that changed the way you think? Why?
I would say the class that made me change my perspective on life was an international development class. It called into question the creation of society and human manifestation in relation to the development of global economy and made me think of my own humanity in a completely different way. We discussed the psychological reliance on human categorization and the hierarchal systems of the mind with regard to systematic/societal superiority stemming from inner-inferiority. It made me think about existence and existentialism in monetary themes stemming into our day-to-day lives and embedded in who we all are. I have become a more whole person, I believe, from that class.
What one piece of advice would you give high school students, or yourself in high school?
One piece of advice I would give high school students is to take the time for life. We easily get caught up in the speed of the every day, stress of getting into college, and our futures and often end up focused on doing things just to get them done. The issue with that is that life ends up flashing by when we think that way. I recently realized that I was not actually taking in the experiences and opportunities I was going through and I was not paying attention to the gift of life that was passing me by. In sum, I advise you all to take the time to go step by step to enjoy and understand things for what they are and just live. You will thank yourself in the future.
Things you won’t read in the brochure about Sarah Lawrence college:
Sarah Lawrence is located in a suburb outside of NYC, so it’s great to be able to have access to the big apple while still being able to have a quieter campus to retreat to.
Professors at Sarah Lawrence are extremely passionate and want to develop strong relationships with students. It’s great to be able to have them as mentors throughout the college journey.
The classic Mac/PC breakdown. Use whatever computer it comfortable for you! There’s no computer system that you should have on campus, it’s whatever you want to use.
