Student Spotlight: Natalia @ University of Massachusetts Amherst

Meet Natalia, a junior Marketing and Communication major at University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, MA. She previously attended Port Chester High School.

What factors were most important when you decided to go to your school?

Large school, out of state, with a large variety of activities.

In high school, I wish I would have tried...

Event planning.

How would you characterize your school?

Mainstream, Sporty, Liberal, and Outdoorsy.

How would you characterize your group of friends?

Racially, religiously, and geographically diverse.

What types of clubs, activities, sports, jobs, etc are you involved with on campus?

Marketing Club, University Programming Council (plans events around campus, including Spring Concert!), Red Cross Club, Club Volleyball, Sisters on the Runway (puts on fashion shows and events to raise awareness for domestic violence), and Ski and Board club.

Three things you won't read in your school's brochure
  1. We may not be the best in sports, but we're still very school spirited and tons of people come out for games!

  2. We have a free public bus system! The PVTA buses will take you anywhere you need to go for free, just show them your UMass ID card!

  3. Whenever it's warm out, everyone goes outside to play or study in the sun!

Best on-campus event

Spring concert or any home basketball game!

Favorite class

Intro to Financial Accounting.

Favorite dining hall meal

On Halloween, we go all out and get lobsters for dinner with mac n' cheese and potatoes. But my favorite is either the shrimp scampi or chicken piccata!

Favorite place to eat out around campus

Judie's Restaurant.

How did you spend your last summer?

Last summer I worked at a small local boutique to save money so I could help pay for school. This summer I'm still working at the boutique, but I'm also a social media intern at a real estate company in NYC. While juggling those two jobs, I've also decided to take a summer class online so I can stay ahead of my credits!

On weekends, students...

Kick it on campus.

It’s 3am on a Saturday. Where are you?

Either hanging out at a friend’s dorm, coming home from a frat, or walking around town!

It’s finals week and the libraries are packed. Where do you go to study?

My dorm! During finals week we have 23-hour quiet hours so it's really easy to get all your studying done in your dorm. There are also tons of other places to study like cafes, smaller libraries for specific majors, or even off campus!

Before I graduate, I want to…

Be the head of a committee for a club I'm in and join a club outside of my comfort zone!
