Student Spotlight: Lena @ Sonoma State University

The myOptions Team

Meet Lena, a senior at the Sonoma State University majoring in Liberal Studies. She previously attended Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, California.

What factors were most important when deciding which college to attend?

The most important factors that made me decide where I wanted to go were class sizes, housing, community, and whether or not the school had a good program for my major.

In high school, I wish I would have tried...

To join more clubs. Being involved at any campus really helps you gain connections to people and places in your community. Clubs and other organizations really help you feel like you have a home!

How would you characterize your school?

Hipster, Activist, Outdoorsy, and Liberal

What types of clubs, activities, sports, jobs, etc. are you involved with on campus?

I have been involved with the dance team and a sorority.

What are three things you won't read in the school's brochure?
  1. The gym has a hot tub in the back for students to use (a lot of people don't know about it).
  2. Most classes have about 40 students so you really get one-on-one attention.
  3. We have a lot of random performances happening on campus.
Best on-campus event:

Big Nite, Pack the Den, and Lip Jam.

Favorite Class:

LIBS 320A - Making Your Creative Dreams Real. It's all about discovering what you want to do and making it happen!

Favorite Dining Hall Meal:

Noodle stir fry or the breakfast sandwiches (so yummy!)

On weekends, students:

Go to San Francisco, go shopping at stores in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, go to Napa to wine taste (if you're 21), or stay and do homework.

It's 1AM on Saturday. Where are you?

Curled up on my couch with my friends watching Netflix!

It's finals week and the libraries are packed. Where do you go study?

Charlie Brown's Cafe or the Starbucks across from campus.

Before I graduate, I want to...

Take advantage of all the great opportunities Sonoma has!

Anything else awesome that we should know about your college?

Our on-campus housing is really the best! Big living rooms, pantries, and even a full kitchen!
